Types of Faceplates and Strikes

Standard door latches are available in three configurations, Drive-in Latch, rounded corner and square corner mortise plate latches. If you have a much larger latch than shown here, you likely have a mortise lock.

If you are unsure how your doors are prepped choose square corner. You can always chisel out material to accommodate square corner latches if your doors are prepped for rounded corner or drive in latch. However, if your doors are prepped for square corner and you order rounded corner or drive-in, you'll end up with a latch that doesn't cover the prepped area and it will look bad.
