Made with a focus on security and durability built to last, these selections offer function and style in one great choice. One of the best things about this brand is that the hardware is made to fit into just about any door with ease using standard American door preps. If you are replacing existing locks, then your door preps will most likely be correct for this brand. However, for your convenience, we have posted on most Schlage product pages a diagram showing proper door preparation instructions for this brand's hardware. The bottom line is that these products are simple and user-friendly, using universal handed levers you don't need to specify whether you need left or right hand except for a select few dummy levers. Also, all of Schlage door hardware uses an adjustable backset that can be used for both 2 3/8"" and 2 3/4"" backsets for added ease.

You can learn how to rekey and purchase your own rekeying kit but for most people it is much easier to have a local locksmith do the rekeying for you. If you take your locks into their shop, the keying service is much cheaper than if they make a service call to your location.
How do you pronounce Schlage?
Schlage lock company was named after the man who founded the company in 1920, Walter Schlage. It is pronounced 'Sh-l-ague'. Basically, take the word 'vague', but add the 'Shl' in place of the 'V'.
Is Schlage better than other brands of locks?
Schlage is one of the most well known and oldest brands of door locks available. With a lifetime mechanical warranty and their offering of popular styles, it is hard to go wrong with a Schlage lock. There are other brands that offer solid brass construction and custom designs that are not available with Schlage, but you won't necessarily get better performance from those brands. Schlage residential locks are made of zinc die-cast, similar to comparable brands like Kwikset, Sure-Loc, Weiser, Weslock, and more. In that segment, Schlage is on the higher end of quality and dependability.
Are Schlage door levers reversible?
Yes, Schlage door levers are reversible with the exception of single dummy levers. You will need to specify the handing on single dummy lever handles. If you are mounting a lever on both sides of the door, you will need one left hand and one right hand.
How does a Schlage privacy lock work?
Schlage privacy locks have a turn button on the lever. Turn the button to lock from the inside. Upon exit, turn the lever and the lock mechanism releases.
