Double Cylinder door knobs, now we have all heard of double cylinder deadbolts, but what is a double cylinder door knob? A double cylinder door knob is a door knob that is keyed on both sides of the door, or in a place where the door that needs the option of locking on either side of the door. These door knobs are not very common at all that's for sure. I was surprised to find that there is a need for them at times. I remember being asked two or three times if we had such a thing and at the time I didn't know of anything like it, well except the Asylum lever locks. But with the Asylum levers it may limit the options of use a little because the levers on either side are inoperable (they generally use these on adjoining hotel suites and things like that). But we have found that the double cylinder door knobs do indeed exist. They are in the commercial door hardware section, because you most likely won't find these on residential homes.
We have two types of double cylinder door knobs. The first, an Advantage double cylinder store door function - this means the two sides of the knob are synced so if one side is unlocked with a key, both sides are unlock. When you lock one side both sides are locked.
The second type of double cylinder door knob we have is called an Advantage double cylinder Communicating Lock - this means each side functions independently from the other. So if one side is unlocked with a key, the other side remains locked.
These are made for all the commercial kind of buildings like for an office, school, hospital, apartment, hotel, motel and all those other public buildings that get a lot of use. This lock is UL Listed and you can use it on any door that needs to be able to lock from both sides of the door. It's not forced to lock like the Asylum function, but maybe that's what you are looking for - an option to lock.
There are more door knobs with the double cylinder option from other brands that are not yet on the site like from Schlage and a few others may be able to make one up, so please contact us if that's what you are looking for!

I am looking for a double sided key entry door knob so my 4 year old son can not get out of the house in the middle of the night. Please let me know if you carry them and the prices please. Thank You
Jake
Hi Sheryl, we do have them here: https://www.directdoorhardware.com/ezset_ea-ba_double-cylinder.htm Keep in mind these are typically not allowed by the building code because in the event of an emergency, you would have to have a key to exit.

Hi, what are the other options you mentioned for double-cylinder knob? from Schlage and others? Also, I am wondering if you have double-sided keypad handles? I need something that locks on both sides but doesn't lock automatically until I decide to.
Jake
Abdul, You can use a double sided lock such as this one: https://www.directdoorhardware.com/ezset_ea-ba_double-cylinder.htm We can order this same lock style in from Schlage, but the cost is significantly more (4-5 times). This is the only double sided keyless we have right now. https://www.directdoorhardware.com/Lockey_2210DC.htm

I need a lock that I can lock from my daughters bedroom to the hall bathroom but that can also lock from the bathroom to her room (from both sides). A key lock is also fine if that’s all that there is available. We have boys that use that bathroom so she needs privacy but they also need privacy when using the bathroom.

This is what I need at the top of my indoor basement steps. A family member is living with us and uses the basement, but sometimes we don't want her coming upstairs, or she doesn't want us coming down. SHE DOES HAVE A SEPARATE ENTRY DOOR TO THE OUTSIDE which is her entry to the basement from outside, so she would not be locked inside in case of an emergency. We also utilize doorbells; when we want to go down we ring her doorbell, and when she wants to come up, she rings our doorbell. Very practical.
