Why is my latch turning 360 degrees?
The tubular latch provided is called a self-handing latch,
which allows the installer to easily adjust the latch to accommodate
a left-handed OR right-handed door. When the latch is installed
the face plate must be installed to hold the tongue in the
desired position.
Do your Crystal or Porcelain door knobs come in any other
colors?
Our Waldorf and our standard Crystal knobs are offered ONLY
in clear. Also, Porcelain knobs are only available in White.
Why is my knob hard to turn?
Most likely, this is due to binding caused by improper installation
of the knob too tightly to the plate. To correct the binding,
back the knob out by turning the knob on the spindle one
turn at a time, counter-clockwise, until the knob turns freely
in both directions. If this does not solve the binding, try
removing the knob from the spindle and verify that the spindle,
when installed in the latch, is centered in the backplates.
Why do my screws slip through the holes in the edge of the
door while installing the latch?
You probably did not use the face plate that comes with the
tubular latch. The face plate is included in a bag that also
includes the necessary screws for installing the strike and
face plate on the door jamb and the edge of the door.
Why does my knob turn 360 degrees?
There are two set screws that screw into the base of the knob
and secure the knobs to the spindle. The set screws sometimes
will work their way back out with use. They can be tightened
using the Allen wrench supplied with your doorset. If you
are have problems keeping the set screws in place, try putting
one drop of clear nail polish in the screw hole before screwing
the set screw in.
Why is my privacy spindle in two pieces?
The split-spindle on privacy sets allows the interior knob
to function independently from the exterior knob. When installing
a Privacy doorset make sure that you screw the two pieces
of the split-spindle all the way together and then back it
off about a turn and a half. This will insure that the two
halves of the split-spindle function properly.
What do I do if someone locks themselves in a room?
There is a small hole in the Rosette or Plate on the exterior
side of the door that can be used to unlock a "locked" privacy
door. Inserting a straightened paper clip or something of
similar size into the privacy hole and gently pushing will
unlock the privacy lock.
How should I order if I want One finish on the outside of
the door and a different finish on the inside?
Please contact us to place an order of split finishes.
Do you Carry Deadbolts?
Yes, we currently offer Single Cylinder Deadbolts for use in
locking exterior doors.
Are your Mortise Locksets designed for older houses?
Yes. Our Mortise locksets are designed to retro fit most older
style doors originally built with interior mortise cases.
Even if you want to keep your existing mortise lock case,
our plates, knobs and spindles are made to work with mortise
lock cases.
What is the difference between Mortise, Privacy, Passage and
Dummy?
A mortised door is usually an older door that has a longer,
thinner, more narrow lock body and can be used as a passage
or privacy. To use it as privacy, you have a skeleton key that
unlocks and locks from both sides of the door. To use it as
a passage you would simply not use the key or lock the door.
A passage function (tubular latch) is used on a closet or hallway
door and does not lock. A privacy (tubular latch) is a good
doorset to use on a bedroom, bathroom or any other interior
door you are wanting to lock. A dummy knob does not turn and
does not function as a working lock. A dummy function is typically
used on doors with some other device which holds the door closed.
What door thickness
do your doorsets fit?
When installing our deadbolts you want to make sure that your
door is somewhere in between 1-3/4in and 2-1/4in in thickness.
If your door is not in that range please call customer service.
When installing our standard doorsets you want to make sure
that your door is somewhere between 1-3/8in and 1-3/4in
*Note that extended spindles are required on passage locks
that will be used on thicker exterior doors. These are offered
by special request only.
