Our Top Projects for Door Hardware

From replacing your entry handleset to dividing spaces with barn door kits, we have a variety of project recommendations to keep you busy. Here are five ideas to get you started:

  1. Replace Your Entry Door Handleset
Replacing an entry door handleset can be pretty simple if you do a little homework. We've tried to make the process as easy as possible so we've created a step-by-step guide to help you find a handleset that will fit how your door is already prepared with bore holes. You can easily replace your entry handleset by using our Handleset Replacement Guide. Check it out to get started finding a new handleset to update the look of your front door.

  2. Install a New Kickplate
A popular upgrade many people do when replacing their handleset is the addition of a kickplate in a matching finish at the bottom of your door. Door kickplates are easy to install and add a nice look to your front door while protecting it from weather and wear from the constant in and out traffic exterior doors receive. You can get a kickplate for both inside and outside if you wish! Our kickplates are available in the standard screw mount, magnetic mount (for steel doors), and adhesive mount. Check out our selection of kickplates – we can even make custom-sized kickplates if you have non-standard requirements.

  3. Replace Your Door Hinges
Another common hardware piece to replace when upgrading your handleset is door hinges. Replacing your hinges can be quite easy to do and it always looks better to have door hinges that are in a matching finish to the handleset. However, there are a few things to consider when replacing door hinges. You should always try and replace hinges of the same size and hole pattern if you can. If you currently have steel hinges, you wouldn't want to replace them with solid brass hinges, as the hinge leaves are much thicker and would require the door and jamb to be mortised out deeper. It can be done but typically requires some carpentry work. You can easily find a replacement for your door hinge using our Door Hinge Replacement Guide.

  4. Upgrade to a Keyless Deadbolt
Keyless locks are becoming more and more common these days and there are many options available. One of the most popular upgrades we see is the Emtek August Empowered Lock, which can be controlled with an app on your cell phone. These can be unlocked remotely, temporary codes can be granted, and you can have access monitored. These locks fit standard bore holes and are easy to install in a standard bore hole prepped door. The app and connectivity take a bit of extra time but instructions are included to help you along the process.

Standard keyless deadbolts are also very common. They are designed to fit doors with a standard 2 1/8" bore hole so they replace most deadbolts with simple installation. These don't have Bluetooth connectivity but most will allow you to store over 20 user codes. The convenience added with keyless locks is worth the cost for most people. There are many other types of keyless locks available for your home or office – if you have specific needs, please contact us for more information.

  5. Divide Spaces With a Barn Door Hardware Kit
Last on our list of creative uses for door hardware is to divide spaces with a barn door hardware kit. Barn door hardware kits are available for all kinds of barn door applications.
