About Schlage Handleset Functions
Schlage handlesets are available in two functions:
Single Cylinder Handleset
Single cylinder handlesets are locked/unlocked with a key from the exterior and locked/unlocked from inside the home with a thumbturn
If you have a double entry door where one side is generally inactive while the other side is always active, you will need a combination of two handlesets. For the active side, you'll need a single cylinder handleset. For the inactive door you'll want to use a dummy handleset. This gives you the look of a complete working set, but doesn't have all of the internal mechanisms - perfect for an inactive door.
As mentioned previously, Schlage handlesets will fit doors that are prepped for rounded corner and square corner faceplates. So whatever you currently have, Schlage will be a good fit. Other measurements you'll want to check:
- 2 1/8" Diameter bore hole for both deadbolt and handleset latch.
- Backset of 2 3/8" or 2 3/4"
- 1" diameter cross bore on both deadbolt and handleset latch.
- 5-1/2" center to center spacing on bore holes.
- Door must not be bored for dummy handleset to be mounted properly.
