About Kwikset Handleset Functions
Kwikset handlesets are available in three functions to be used in different applications.

Single Cylinder Handleset
Single cylinder handlesets are probably the most commonly purchased Kwikset handleset. A single cylinder handle set has a thumb lever on the interior side of the deadbolt with a keyed cylinder on the outside. This lets you lock the door with the quick turn of the thumb lever. To get in from the outside you must have a key.

Double Cylinder Handleset
Double cylinder handlesets are not commonly used. The double cylinder has a keyed cylinder on both inside and outside of the door. You have to use a key to unlock the door from the inside as well as the outside. Some people use double cylinder handlesets on doors with glass panels or sidelites so that an intruder wouldn't be able to break the glass and reach inside to unlock the door. Double cylinder deadbolts are not recommended for most applications where emergency egress would be a concern since you would have to find the key to unlock the door and exit the building.

Dummy Handleset
Dummy handlesets are used on the inactive side of a double door. The dummy handleset is handleset trim only, including deadbolt trim, with no latches or internal mechanisms. For decorative use only on non-functioning doors

Door Prep for Kwikset Handlesets

As mentioned previously, Kwikset door levers will fit doors that are prepped for drive in latches, square corner faceplates or rounded corner faceplates. So whatever you currently have, Kwikset will be a good fit. Other measurements you'll want to check: - 2 1/8" Diameter bore hole for deadbolt and handleset latch. - Backset of 2 3/8" or 2 3/4" - 1" diameter cross bore. - 5-1/2" center to center spacing on bore holes - Door must not be bored for dummy handleset to be mounted properly.
