Many Schlage lever handles are ADA Compliant
Construction of Schlage Lever Handles
Schlage's lever handles are made of all metal zinc die cast components and feature an adjustable backset latch that will accomodate all of the most common ways a door could be prepped. Most standard doors will have either a drive in latch, latch with rounded corner faceplate (as shown in the image to the left) or a latch with a square corner faceplate. Some door knob brands only pack one of the three styles, but with Schlage you get all three. The faceplate attached to the latch in the image to the left is easily removable. You can then attach the round drive in collar, or the square corner latch if that is what you need. This versatility makes Schlage doorknobs and excellent replacement for whatever kind of lock you already have.
About Schlage Lever Handle Functions
Schlage lever handles are available in several functions the most common being keyed entry, privacy (bed and bath), passage (hall and closet) and single dummy. Each function is used for little different application.
Schlage Keyed Entry Lever Handles
Schlage Keyed entry lever handles use a Schlage C keyway. Keyed entry lever handles have a turn button on the interior to lock and unlock the door. When leaving your home, you can just turn the button on the interior and the door will lock behind you. Unlock from the outside using a key. The lever handle is only locked when the turn button is in the locked position.
Schlage Privacy Lever Handles
Schlage privacy lever handles work just like the keyed entry lever handles, but you do not need a key to unlock from the outside. There is no key cylinder, but there is a pinhole through which you can unlock the door using the generic tool provided. Privacy locks are generally used on bedroom or bathroom doors.
Schlage Passage Lever Handles
Schlage passage lever handles are non- locking. These are great for hall doors or closet doors that do not need to lock, but a latching mechanism is still required.
Schlage Single Dummy Lever Handles
Schlage dummy lever handles are sold individually as a single dummy. These are non-functioning levers that are mounted to the surface of the door. These are used on doors that do not need a latch mechanism like the inactive side of a french door for example.
