Construction of Kwikset Deadbolts Kwikset deadbolts are made of all metal components and feature an adjustable backset deadbolt latch that will accomodate all of the most common ways a door could be prepped. Reversible design will work for right or left handed doors. New Kwikset deadbolts include SmartKey Re-key technology. You can re-key the lock yourself in seconds. We can get your Kwikset deadbolts keyed to match your keyed Kwikset entrance knobs, levers, and handleset.
About Kwikset Knob Functions Kwikset deadbolts are available in two functions; single cylinder and double cylinder.
Kwikset Single Cylinder Single cylinder deadbolts are the most commonly purchased Kwikset deadbolt. A single cylinder deadbolt has a thumb turn on the interior side of the deadbolt with a keyed cylinder on the outside. This lets you lock the door with the quick turn of the thumb turn. To get in from the outside you must have a key. Series 780 and 980 single cylinder deadbolts comply with section 4.13.9 ADA requirement
Kwikset Double Cylinder Kwikset Double cylinder deadbolts are not as commonly used. The double cylinder has a keyed cylinder on both inside and outside of the door. You have to use a key to unlock the door from the inside as well as the outside. Some people use double cylinder handlesets on doors with glass panels or sidelites so that an intruder wouldn't be able to break the glass and reach inside to unlock the door. Double cylinder deadbolts are not recommended for most applications where emergency egress would be a concern since you would have to find the key to unlock the door and exit the building.
